The free plugin is deceptively powerful. I have used it on three client sites and never needed to upgrade for basic SEO. The schema wizard alone — it auto-detects content type and fills in schema markup — saved me an hour per page. The free version includes XML sitemaps (with image sitemap support), a 404 monitor, redirection manager, and local SEO for brick-and-mortar businesses. The setup wizard imports settings from Yoast or AIOSEO; I migrated a site in under five minutes.

For paid tiers, the PRO plan at $7.99/month (intro, billed annually) tracks up to 500 keywords across 3 sites. That is cheap compared to [Ahrefs](/ahrefs/) or [Semrush](/semrush/), though the tracking is simpler. I recommend the PRO plan only if you need keyword tracking; otherwise free is sufficient. For a client with 4 sites, I bought Business because PRO only covers 3 sites — that extra $17/month for 7 more sites felt reasonable. The Business plan ($24.99/month intro) allows 10 sites and 1,500 keywords; the Agency plan ($54.99/month intro) claims unlimited sites and 10,000 keywords. For agencies managing dozens of client accounts, the Agency tier is competitive with [SE Ranking](/se-ranking/) but lighter on reporting. The interface is clean, and the free version does not nag you to upgrade — I respect that.

The first awkward point is the billing model. Rank Math only offers annual billing. You cannot pay monthly. If your cash flow is tight or you want to test the plugin for a single month before committing, you are forced to pay a year upfront. Some argue the annual lock-in encourages commitment, but I think it limits experimentation.

The second problem is that intro prices are misleading. They advertise $7.99/month for PRO, but that is the first-year discount. Renewal at year two is roughly $8.99/month. Still cheap, but the practice catches people off guard. More critically, Content AI — the feature for generating AI content analysis and suggestions — is a completely separate subscription. It is not included in any main plan. You get a short trial, then you must pay extra. That makes budgeting messy. For example, I bought the PRO plan thinking I could use Content AI alongside it, only to discover the AI add-on was another $4.99/month.

The per-site cost can also be deceptive. The Agency plan unlocks unlimited sites, but the feature set per site (like keyword tracking limits) is shared across all sites. If you need deep tracking per site, you might outgrow the limits quickly. Enterprise sites needing multisite support? Rank Math does not support multisite in the free version — you need Business or Agency. There is also no built-in content scoring like [Surfer SEO](/surferseo/) offers — you need yet another tool.

Yoast SEO premium is $99 per year for one site. It includes internal linking suggestions, readability analysis, and social previews. Its premium cost is higher than Rank Math PRO's intro price on a per-site basis, but the single-site cost is clear. Yoast does not include keyword tracking — that requires additional add-ons or a separate tool like [Keywords Everywhere](/keywords-everywhere/). If monthly billing matters, Yoast premium may be cheaper short-term despite higher upfront cost.

All in One SEO (AIOSEO) bundles more features into its paid tiers, including a TruSEO score that works inside the editor. Their Content AI is more integrated with the main plugin. However, their pricing is higher at $49.60/year for the basic paid tier, and the keyword tracking is limited to 3 sites.

SEOPress is the alternative I am leaning toward lately. You can buy a lifetime license for $299, or an annual pro at $49. The free version is decent, and the paid one includes keyword tracking, schema, and redirection without any separate Content AI cost. The catch: SEOPress lacks the polish of Rank Math's setup wizard, and its keyword tracking is less automated. SEOPress lifetime pays for itself in about six years versus Rank Math PRO renewal costs — worth considering if you plan to stay on the same plugin long-term. For keyword tracking alone, you could skip plugins entirely and use a dedicated [Rank Tracker](/rank-tracker/) tool. But if you want an all-in-one plugin without subscription surprises, SEOPress is my call.
